Today Microsoft made several big announcements at the Future of SharePoint event in San Francisco.

In case you missed it, you can watch the event on-demand here.

Sweet new mobile features!

My favorite new feature is the SharePoint mobile app pictured below (blog, video)!  For almost half a decade now my team and I have work with mobile technologies and SharePoint.  Many times my team and I have built mobile applications that integrate with SharePoint.  These solutions have not always been easy to implement.  Now, with the new SharePoint mobile app, many common business scenarios are now mobile-ready right out-of-the-box!

A new way to develop!

Another groundbreaking announcement is the SharePoint Framework (blog, video).  The SharePoint Framework is “a Page and Part model that enables fully supported client-side development, easy integration with the Microsoft Graph and support for open source tooling.”  This new framework has been in the works for a long time.

Not only is the SharePoint Framework groundbreaking for SharePoint developers, but the way Microsoft went about inventing and implementing it is as well!  To create the SharePoint Framework Microsoft engaged MVPs and industry experts, who architect and implement SharePoint solutions on a regular basis, to gather feedback about the new model, what it should accommodate, and what scenarios and technologies it should enable.

My first glimpse into the SharePoint Framework was right after the Microsoft MVP Summit last year.   More recently, my team and I (and many other ISVs and MVPs) had the privilege to attend the Dev Kitchen Microsoft hosted several months ago to learn more about the new framework, kick the tires on it, and provide feedback.  During the Dev Kitchen Microsoft engineers listened to our feedback and used it to fine tune the SharePoint Framework.  Thank you Microsoft for trusting all of us who participated in these events to help shape the SharePoint Framework!

Extra, extra!  Read all about it!  (and watch too)

There are a TON of resources already available that you can use to learn all about the various items discussed in the Future of SharePoint event today.  I’ve collated these resources here for you.
